Norma Schmidt, St. Thomas' priest in charge, lives in Fairfield with her husband, David Schmidt, and one of her two adult sons. Besides working part time at St. Thomas', Norma teaches business ethics and ethics of war and peace at Fairfield University.
 
Norma was born in Gary, Indiana, and grew up Roman Catholic.  Besides studying to become a priest, she earned a master's degree in special education.  She has served churches in Brooklyn and New Rochelle and has worked as a chaplain in hospital and hospice settings.  
 
Norma enjoys gardening, reading, walking, beaches, sci-fi TV, travel, podcasts and yoga.  She co-founded Hat Town Story Hour, a monthly storytelling open mic in Bethel.  Norma also loves spending time with the family dog, a delightful beagle named Boomer.  Norma studied karate for 11 years and recently began studying tai chi.
